Focus and Scope

World Journal of Social Science (WJSS) welcomes interdisciplinary and regionally diverse submissions that address clear social-science questions. 

The journal covers the following main areas:

Social Inequality and Population 
Class, gender, ethnicity, family, aging, youth, demography, social mobility, social determinants of health, and population change.

Politics, Governance, and Public Policy
Political institutions, participation, governance, public administration, policy, law and society, and civic life.

Work, Organizations, and Economic Life 
Labor, organizations, economic sociology, management in social context, entrepreneurship, development, and economic institutions.

Culture, Identity, and Community 
Anthropology, cultural processes, religion, identity, communities, social networks, and everyday life.

Communication, Media, and Digital Society 
Media, communication, digital platforms, public discourse, information environments, and technology-mediated social interaction.

Education and Social Institutions 
Education systems, inequality, social mobility, policy, institutional change, and education-society relationships.

Migration, Place, and Spatial Change 
Migration, human geography, cities, rural communities, regional change, borders, and transnational social relations.

Environment, Development, and Social Sustainability
Environment-society relations, climate adaptation, development, sustainability, resources, and community resilience.

WJSS welcomes interdisciplinary research but expects a clear and substantive contribution to social-science analysis, theory, or debate. 
Studies primarily situated in literature, linguistics, business, law, or other adjacent fields should demonstrate explicit relevance to social-science scholarship.

Peer Review Process

The journal uses double-anonymized peer-reviewed system for peer-review. The manuscript will be peer-reviewed by at least two independent external reviewers with relevant expertise. The review process may take 4-10 weeks. The editorial board makes the editorial decision after considering the reviewers' reports, the manuscript's scholarly quality, relevance, originality, methodological or analytical validity, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and any other relevant information. Possible decisions include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, rejection with an invitation to submit a substantially revised manuscript as a new submission, or rejection.

2022-2014 Semiannual, published in January and July

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

 

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...

Before submitting a proposal, please note the following:

  • The special issue should focus on a specific research topic, conference theme, or closely related area within the journal’s scope.
  • All manuscripts submitted to the special issue will follow the same editorial and peer-review process as regular submissions.
  • Proposed guest editors and reviewers are subject to approval by the journal.
  • Proposals should be submitted to the journal at least five months before the planned publication date.
  • An article processing charge (APC) applies to each accepted article.
  • All published articles will be freely available online as open-access articles.
