Focus and Scope

International Research in Higher Education aims to facilitate exchange among researchers and practitioners by highlighting work with international relevance or transferable implications for colleges, universities, and postsecondary systems.

IRHE welcomes empirical, theoretical, review, and applied studies in the following areas, among others:

  • Higher Education Policy and Administration
  • Curriculum and Instruction
  • Student Learning and Development
  • Educational Psychology in Higher Education
  • Educational Technology and Development
  • Quality, Evaluation, and Improvement
  • Leadership and Professional Learning
  • International and Comparative Higher Education

The journal encourages authors to explain the international, comparative, or transferable significance of their findings rather than presenting local description alone. All submissions must undergo rigorous peer review to ensure academic integrity and quality.

Peer Review Process

The journal uses double-anonymized peer-reviewed system for peer-review. The manuscript will be peer-reviewed by at least two independent external reviewers with relevant expertise. The review process may take 4-10 weeks. The editorial board makes the editorial decision after considering the reviewers' reports, the manuscript's scholarly quality, relevance, originality, methodological or analytical validity, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and any other relevant information. Possible decisions include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, rejection with an invitation to submit a substantially revised manuscript as a new submission, or rejection.

Semiannual, published in June & December

 

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

 

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...

Before submitting a proposal, please note the following:

  • The special issue should focus on a specific research topic, conference theme, or closely related area within the journal’s scope.
  • All manuscripts submitted to the special issue will follow the same editorial and peer-review process as regular submissions.
  • Proposed guest editors and reviewers are subject to approval by the journal.
  • Proposals should be submitted to the journal at least five months before the planned publication date.
  • An article processing charge (APC) applies to each accepted article.
  • All published articles will be freely available online as open-access articles.
